I discovered this older art piece while rifling through my work this week. A few years ago I put on a 24 hour art show with the theme "Consumption" and this was my submission. I remember being really stressed out during the first 8 hours. Even though I set the theme, I was completely stumped on what to create. Around 3am I sewed a stuffed thing together, photographed it, threw it in Photoshop and turned it into this illustration... which now that I look at it, I really like the final effect.

Greetings from Germany

Hello! So much has happened since my last post! Tony and I are travelling through Germany at the moment. We were in Berlin for a few weeks to attend the Pictoplasma Festival. Words can not express how inspiring it was... wonderful to meet new friends, experience the speeches, and view the lovely artwork. It warmed my heart to meet more people who are doing what we are doing, connecting with themselves and others through their art.

I wrote a second ago that there are many new happenings! First off, Tony and I just launched (on the first day of Pictoplasma in fact) our new website:

Here is a new mini show I just put up called "Gourds". It tells a small tale about a girl who travels in her gourd vessel and arrives in a new land of odd and mysterious men. They adore her and make her into their land's Goddess... and then she eats them.

Crater Lake

Here is "Crater Lake"! This show "Head in the Clouds" was inspired by my trip to Crater Lake in the spring. I loved the drive down from Portland- the sun was shining the entire time, the clouds were huge and fluffy and there was 10 feet of fresh snow all around us. it was truly magical! here is the big centerpiece to my show. It is 2 feet by 2 1/2 feet wide and made of styrine, beautiful carved wood (by tony and me!) and goauche. The LED lighting was done by Matt Deleu. more pictures soon to come. I included pictures of the piece with the exterior lights on and off, a picture of my initial sketch, and a picture of Crater Lake itself. :D

I made three cloud shaped "night lights". It's hard to tell in these pictures, but the pieces are made up of two or three layers of cloud shaped wood pieces (i cut them out myself!) The amazing Matt Deleu installed the LED lighting behind each wooden cloud layer and i painted on the top layer with gouache. on this piece i added styrine layers for the waves! I will post pictures from other views soon! you can see the huge difference in the way the piece looks when the room lights are on and off! perfect for any of you that miss night-lights :)

happy spring! in our spring fever, tony and i created a new and exciting wood sculpture. this cutie is now being shown at Lunar boy Gallery in astoria. we have been kicking to do a wood sculpture and are thrilled to have our first wood piece out and in Deborah's gorgeous gallery. thank you ben adams for inviting us into your bird show among such talented artists. xoxo

above is an "in progress picture". you can see my original design and the wooden sculpture after we sanded and carved them. i was heavily inspired by mid-century danish furniture when i designed and painted this piece. tony figured out how to turn my drawing into the wooden sculpture. he made the fantastic trumpets and put this little guy together! he stands at about 8 inches high. xoxo!

Meet Lady Won ton! She is a Delivery Giant who travels from town to town delivering lovely rainbow won tons!

This is my first shot at a wood block print. I had a wonderful time making this piece. I made little fabric won tons with embroidered rainbows on them and added some collage stars and bit of painting. a fun mixed media piece! She went to a show in San Francisco at Maverick Studios for a group show with some very talented Pixar artists. Thank you Courtney for inviting me into the show!

Hello, hello! Meet "La Cerveza Afortunada" (The Lucky Beer)! This one is a first time collaboration with Tony Candelaria. It went to a Day of the Dead themed show at Lunar Boy Gallery in Astoria, Oregon. The piece is a working slot machine with light up eyes! In the slots are a variety of skulls that spin when the bone is pulled. Then to top it all off, if you get three beers in a row the machine rings a bell and spits out money. (video coming soon) Look forward to more collaborations from us this next year!
